Blueseed is a proposed cruise ship anchored in international waters off of the coast of San Francisco. Its designers envision the ship as a place for international entrepreneurs to develop their businesses without the need for US work visas.
Blueseed is particularly interesting because it takes into consideration the ecology around its design. In the James Auger paper we read, the author claims that “To truly understand something it is imperative to consider not just the object in isolation…but also who and what it interacts with…, the physical envi- ronment…, the politics and systems that make up the society…and how all these factors relate and interact with each other…” (2010).
Blueseed doesn’t just think about the design of the actual ship itself, but also its location and environment, and its potential relationship with the economy, immigration, taxes, and the judicial system.
