Critical Engineer Manifesto – Response

“The Critical Engineer recognises that each work of engineering engineers its user, proportional to that user’s dependency upon it.”

The systems we interact with, in this case engineered ones, are molding of who we are. That is, as we engage with an artifact, it in turn engages with us and this engaging on the part of the system shapes who and how we are. It determines who we are for example as in the case of social networks which become extensions of or our identity, in consequence, we transform our behaviors, for example, by stopping at many moments of our lives to capture and share a happening. How we are for example is in the same way affected, we are hyper-connected now because of the engineered systems we have, we are able to reach and be reached almost instantaneously at any place. We were not this, we did not use to stop so much of our days to capture and share random moments of our lives and we were not continuously-everywhere accessible people, we became this because of the engineered systems.
