Initial idea: Design to persuade: change people’s undesirable behavior by pushing them to believe that they belong to a certain identity

I am interested in looking at how the virtual identity can affect people’s  physical behavior in the real world. Can virtual identity be a reflection and further persuasion ?

The interior of behavior change and building better habits is your identity.To change your behavior for good, you need to start believing new things about yourself. Each action you perform is driven by the fundamental belief that it is possible. So if you change your identity (the type of person that you believe that you are), then it’s easier to change your actions. There is a famous saying: you fake is until you become it. So, I believe there must be some way to change people’s undesirable behavior by pushing them to believe that they belong to a certain identity 😀

I did some research on persuasive technology and behavior grid model, and become very excited about this promising topic. Here are some links:

So here are the main questions I need to answer in the next step:

1. What do I want to change? What’s the current problem?

2.  In what circumstances would people’s behavior change? Will it last long?

3. Can computer and data change people’s believes and behaviors?

4. What do I need to do within these two weeks?
